HIV & Pregnancy

What do you expect a doctor to do when you are pregnant, you are HIV positive, you have high viral load because you are not taking your treatment properly, and you decided to book for antenatal care late in your third trimester?

This is one of the challenges we face as primary care doctors, because our patients expect us to perform some magic.

We will try our best, no doubts, but it is not guaranteed that the efforts will be enough to protect the baby from getting infected.

Our goal is for all our babies born to HIV positive mothers will be free from the virus.

Because, no child deserves to live with that burden.
